More about the song

June will see the launch of a long awaited first poetry collection More about the song by Rachel Fox (Crowd-Pleasers Press, price £7). ‘Life, love, misery, music, happiness, humour — they're all here.’

Rachel will be joined by the musician Verona, the story teller and folk-singer Grace Banks and by wee Frank the Fiddler.

Rachel Fox

Rachel Fox was born and raised in the North of England and now lives on the Angus coast in Scotland. After school she studied languages. She has worked in advertising, market research, retail, education, journalism and as a DJ in a lot of sweaty nightclubs. Currently she works at home looking after the family and writing. She has written poems since about 1997 and has published poetry postcards. She reads her poems in public regularly. Always a huge music fan, some of her poems have been turned into songs and they often form part of the performance.

Verona

Verona is a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Montrose, Angus. Mother of five she was persuaded into singing in public by her friend Rachel Fox. After getting some fantastic reactions and bookings in Dundee's Out of the Woods and Brechin's Arts Festival, she is starting to enjoy playing and singing as much as audiences enjoy hearing her heartfelt performances.

Grace Banks

Grace Banks has always enjoyed singing. Since coming to Aberdeen she has been part of SCaT (Scottish Culture and Tradition) for some years as a tutor. She has received many songs from Stanley Robertson, one of the last of our North-East travellers and enjoys the folk tradition. ‘If a song has a good story to tell, it's good to share it!’

Frank Rochford

Frank Rochford is 14 years old and has been playing since the age of 5. His first teacher was Campbeltown fiddler Archie McAllister. He played at Celtic Connections Open Stage aged 9 and again in 2006. He won the Scottish and British Irish Music Fleadhs and went on to compete at the All Ireland Fleadh Letterkenny. He won the Gold Badge at the 2006 Mod in Dunoon. He attends the Junior Academy at the RSAMD in Glasgow and is also an accomplished piper.
